The Army invites you into ‘our home’, a real-life Army Reserve Centre in Edinburgh’s New Town.
Programmed and run in association with Summerhall, Edinburgh’s most daring and respected year-round multi-arts venue, Army@The Fringe first opened its doors in August 2017 with an ambition to spark conversations about what the Army is and what it stands for in 21st Century society.
In 2019, we bring a programme of diverse work that explores life in and out of uniform, focusing on military stories and wider societal issues.
Opening to the public from Friday 2nd August, the venue will be staffed by soldiers and supported by Summerhall’s festival team. We invite you to join us across the festival days and evenings – before a show, after a show or just passing by – for a drink in our Mess Bar (12:00 – 22:00) or, new for 2019, some food from our Field Kitchen (12:00 – 19:00). This year, we’re also opening a courtyard bar to embrace the festival beer garden atmosphere.
Interested in hearing from us in the lead-up to August about our shows, venue and more?
Interested in bringing your show to Army @ The Fringe?
We want to expand Army @ The Fringe in 2020 and beyond, and are keen to start conversations with companies interested in bringing their show to our venue. If you’re in Edinburgh during this year’s festival, we’re happy to show you around the space and give you insight into what we can offer. Previous companies have been supported by the British Army in research and development stages, something that we’ll continue to offer to the right projects, and all shows – whether military-related or not – benefit from the unique placement within a working Reserve Centre staffed by soldiers.
